I was on a path that wound around below the rock, in a little village called Tavan, in northern Vietnam.

I was walking through the village, and she was sitting up on a rock chewing on a piece of sugar cane. I turned to take her picture and she turned her head away from me. As I came around the rock, I tried again, and she stood up and looked in the other direction.

I waited.

She turned to see if I was still there, and I took this photograph. The next shot shows her grinning at me.
